“At the beginning of creation, God made them male and female; for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and the two shall become as one. They are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore let no man separate what God has joined.”
The sponsor couple program is a program within the parish marriage preparation process to assist couples to have a successful marriage. A sponsor couple is a mentor couple for a couple engaged to be married. This married couple shares their experience with an engaged couple while at the same time helping them to communicate on important aspects of their present and future relationship. The Sponsor Couple Program gives the engaged couple the opportunity to reflect on their relationship in a structured manner and integrate the experience.
The sponsor couple meets with an engaged couple for a series of five meetings. These meetings are usually in the evening and last about two hours. They are scheduled at least one week apart. The meetings take place in the home of the sponsor couple.
The Sponsor Couple:
· Thinks well of their marriage
· Using the program materials provided is willing to share some of their experiences with engaged couples.
· Relates real-life occurrences of how marriage really is with its day-to-day ups and downs.
