The 2nd Family Ministry is a home-bound program that assists individuals living with disabilities, memory loss or other challenges due to aging and are known as Care Partners. We operate under the direction of the nonprofit organization CarePartners that was founded in 1985. The ministry is twofold in that the care team members (volunteers of St. Martha) not only offer support and companionship for the homebound person but also respite for the caregiver. Service is offered to parishioners as well as anyone in the Porter, Kingwood and Atascocita area requesting assistance.
The 2nd Family ministry began at St. Martha in 2004. Currently we are ministering to nine families and offering only transportation to three individuals. The care team consists of 30 volunteers with about 15 of them actively ministering to Care Partners. Approximately 20-25 total hours of service are given each week.
The goal of our ministry is to raise awareness in the parish as to exactly what it is we are being called by God to accomplish. Each active team member of this ministry desires to be the hands and feel of our Lord and are looking every day for opportunities to fulfill this calling.
Another area that needs improving is to ensure the Care Partners as well as members of the parish are informed of all the opportunities available to them to assist them in their journey.
