The Ministry of Sacristan in the Catholic Church has changed over the years. Many years ago, the main duty of the Sacristan was the handling and laying out of the vestments for the priest.
Today the Ministry is required to prepare the worship space for its celebrations ranging from the cleaning of the Church and its furnishings to cleaning of the vessels used in the liturgies.
At St. Martha's the Ministry of Sacristan takes on a New and Deeper role - one of coordinating and cleaning the vessels used in the transformation of bread and wine into the BODY and BLOOD of CHRIST is given to this Ministry.
The requirements are simple – to be a member in good standing of the parish, to have the desire to serve your fellow parishioners in the Ministry, and to have been previously commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion in the Archdiocese.
One Sacristan per Mass per weekend is scheduled as well as Holy Days of obligation. Your preference of Mass time is given consideration.
