Laurie Cardella

Hello, I am Laura Cardella.

 I have a master’s degree in counseling from St. Thomas University in Houston. I am a certified spiritual director through the Spiritual Direction Institute at the Cenacle Retreat Center in Houston, since 2008.  The SDI classes taught about many spiritualities, with an emphasis on Ignation spirituality.

My approach to spiritual direction is to provide a safe and welcoming space for the directee, where they can talk and be heard.  Each directee is a child of God.  I hope to meet each person where they are, and utilize the spiritualities and practices the directee has already been using. We discuss types of prayer and spiritualities of different saints. I listen to whatever is shared, and we look to the Master’s Story (Jesus and the scriptures) to see where God is moving in the directee’s life.   My focus is on prayer, contemplation, human relationships and anything else that the directee brings up. We ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit throughout our time together. I don’t use any formulas or one shoe fits all approach.  

I also co- host a ladies’ prayer group once a month because some ladies were requesting group spiritual direction and growth.

On a personal note, we have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.  I enjoy gardening and working with others to protect our planet from harm, teaching English as a second language and studying and learning new things.  I also love meeting and being with many different types of people.
