Criminal Justice Ministry
Criminal Justice Ministry is a response to the Gospel call to minister to those who are victims of crime and their families, as well as the offenders and their own families. (Mt. 25:35-46)
Through this ministry, St. Martha’s community of faith will support victims of crime and their families through prayer and assistance to victims such as helping with repairs to a home that is broken into, transportation to clinics or hospitals, accompanying victims to court etc.
Offenders and their families will be supported by trained Criminal Justice Ministry team members. They visit local jails and prisons to pray and provide counseling and support to offenders in their time of need. Families of offenders will be made aware of support groups, such as TIFA (Texas Inmate Family Association) that are available to educate families on offender rights, jail and prison rules etc.
Unfortunately, the criminal justice system does not always address the root cause of crime and too often responds with punishment rather than prevention and treatment. The ministry will track criminal justice issues and provide recommendations to legislative groups that reflect effective action to reduce crime and protect the public , while respecting the intrinsic value of the human person.
